Michael Casiano is a Guyanese-American composer and electronic musician with a passion for music-making and sharing of the arts. Michael believes in the power of persistence and perseverance and is currently working hard toward the completion of a bachelor’s degree in Music Composition with a concentration in Electronics and a minor in Music Business and Entrepreneurship.
Michael prides himself on his innovative compositional ideas, his ability to communicate effectively with others, and his open-mindedness and willingness to try new things. In pursuing his music composition degree at the University of North Texas (Denton, TX), Michael has always made it a personal point of emphasis to be collaborative and inclusive with his peers. He believes that kindness and acceptance should always be the first consideration made when building connections and fostering relationships with others. Whether being commissioned by a client, taking influence and learning from other musicians, or working directly with other musicians—music-making requires collaboration, and Michael believes that the best music comes as a result of being collaborative, kind, and compassionate towards your peers. Every composition of his is a result of all of the advice, teachings, and love graciously given to him by several brilliant musicians, teachers, peers, and adored friends over the years.
Halfway through his sophomore year of college, Michael has had six original pieces performed and has written many more. Before diving into electronic music, Michael was primarily a percussionist for nine years. He has had the honor of performing in several collegiate musical ensembles—including a university wind band, percussion ensemble, electronics ensemble, and in numerous individual pieces for fellow composers. He is also a member of the premier experimental electronic sextet “Just the TRS" from the Univerity of North Texas. He aspires to one day become an inspirational and successful concert and media composer that develops a platform intended to encourage young composers and musicians to pursue their dreams and fuel their love for the fine arts.
Michael is active in his community and committed to his academics as a Terry Scholar, the Undergraduate Vice President of the North Texas Composers Forum Organization, and a senior counselor for Champions Kids Camp—a camp for children that have experienced a traumatic injury, illness, or personal loss. He is a first-generation college student and a second-generation immigrant.
In his spare time, Michael enjoys overanalyzing movies while eating unhealthy amounts of popcorn, playing video games, hiking, and spending time with his friends, family, and his spoiled and hyper puppy, Milo.
